Default So sitting on a small center console should yield the same results as surf fishing...

So I don't go that far into the gulf mainly just hang around the jettis or a 1/4 mile off the beach just letting some lines sit in the water, but shouldn't I be yeilding the same results of reds and pomps and what not by sitting in the sand bar just like some one casting to it?

I've just yet to sight fish or even see reds which is what I prefer to catch while cruising the shore line in destin and FWB.

Boat is a sea hunt 177, just wondering as I'm still a green horn to boating and finding the good spots.

Gotta give a little more info....what kind of rigging you using? What kind of bait? Artificals? Trolling, drifting or anchored? If your sitting on the sand bar as you say... Can't be but a couple feet deep. Move off the bar. That boat bobbing on the bar is probably scaring everything off. Move away about 30-40 yards and throw around. Give us more.

Yeah, kinda depends on how good a surf fisherman you are I reckon. You still have to know how to fish for a target species.

I'll drift anywhere from a 1/4 to a full mile out. Never really focused but I have tried it a few times with not even a nible. I'll just set a couple rods behind the boat Carolina rigged with live shrimp, or a piece of chunk bait. Chum blocks of the side and nothing.

Probably better off to anchor.

The reds and pomps are feeding in the breaks on the beach so you can't expect them a 1/4 mile out.

Troll for kings and Spanish using dead or live cigs or large spoons or something.

if your going to fish the surf, fish from the beach, if fishing further fish from a boat or pier. fishing the break from a boat doesn't usually mix well and neither do the people on each side.
