Default San Diego County Fishing

So I've been fishing for a long time and I switched to salt water fishing about a year ago and I've been fishing in the carlsbad lagoon and off of several piers and jetties in san diego but I want to start fishing off of the beaches so are there any general areas that are good to start at? And also what is good to use there? Thanks
