Default Pompano ?

We are headed that way the end of April. Iíve never really surf fished typically I fish flats on the kayak.
Will the pompano still be there the end of April?
I have a 6000 penn
What is a good relatively cheap rod length. Has to be two piece

Is 7 foot long enough for surf fishing or should I get longer.

If not pompano what would be running then.
Thanks
Steve

I'm from Arkansas and do most of my surf fishing with 8-9' mh ugly sticks with a 4k size spinner. Got a couple Penn and a Cabelas Salt Striker that I've been using for about 7 years now with no issues.
