I catch the majority of my Bull Reds on my castable shark rigs, but that is also because I always have'em in the water.
Those are, 16/0 Mustad circle on approx 4' of 135# coated cable, 3-8oz pyramids and baited with anything from a whole mullet, half a mullet, mullet head to a 3" mullet steak.

Double Drop, 20-50# FC with 4"-5" drops about 3' apart, 4/0 Mustad demon Perfect Circles with a .5"-.75" piece of yellow or orange soft sunglasses strap and baited with mullet, shrimp, crab or squid. I like these for the Black Drum & Reds.

Another winner is a beefy Carolina Rig, 2'-3' of 20-50# FC or Mono, with a 7/0 circle baited with mullet, shrimp, crab or squid.

That can typically vary depending on where you are fishing for them! Inshore, beach / surf, near shore wrecks/ reefs/ bridges/ jetties, and just offshore (during schooling/ spawning).

Inshore- live bait (such as shrimp), cut bait, soft plastics (DOA, Strike King, Berkley Gulp, etc), or hard baits (MirroLure, Rapala, etc). A couple of my go-to are Strike King Redfish Majic (chartreuse), and MirroLure SheDog (chrome).

I was thinking about using a carolina rig with cut bait, maybe mullet steaks or crab. I've heard good things about using crab. Anyways thanks for the tips!

The best bait for reds is mullet filets or steaks. Best rig is a Carolina rig with an egg sinker. If the surge is too strong, you will have to go to a pyramid sinker. Kahle hook or circle 1/0. Simple.
