Default Ft Walton Fishing Vacay

We'll be headed down to Ft Walton a week from tomorrow. I've been planning this trip since last year when I got back home.

Previous trips I just bought a couple of cheap rod and reels and fished out of a 5 gallon bucket.

This time we wanted to be more prepared so I invested in a little gear.

Got 3 Penn Battle II spinning reels, 2/5000's with 9' Penn Prevail surf rods and 1/8000 with a 10' Penn Prevail surf rod.

Got these strictly for surf fishing.

We like to fish from the pier too so I bought 3 Gander Mountain Tournament 3000 reels with 7' matching med/hev rods(they were on sale). They seem to be well made and I only ended up with about $180 in the trio including tax.

Got them all rigged with Kastking braid:
50lb on the 8000
40lb on the 5000's
30lb on the 3000's for the pier (maybe too much?).

Not sure what we're gonna try to target, any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We like to eat what we catch as much as possible.

I'd really like to catch some Pompano's for the frying pan.

We'll be staying at the El Matadore. I walked the beach last year and decided that's where we wanted to stay so we'd have the beach to the west to fish and not get run off by the swimmers so early in the morning.

Also bought a reels on wheels pier/beach cart for hauling all the new stuff around.

Here's a few pictures of them and how I'm gonna haul them. I had some scrap metal laying around so I made a rack to haul the cart behind the truck to save space in the bed of the truck.

I'm not actually gonna haul the rods like that. I had them stuck there while I was breaking them all down and packing them away.

that is a great location for pompano. also a lot of bull reds in close down there. just walk down to the west a bit to get away from the swimmers. there is some structure down the beach we call Stonehenge. sometimes its dry sometimes its in the water. looks like you are ready. nice rig.

if you get skunked sneak back over the bridge middle of downtown and check out Burrito del sol. really good coastal Mexican food. served up by some sweet little honeys.

You're ready to go and HIGHLY recommend Burrito Del Sol, probably our favorite spot in ft Walton!
