Default first trip out surf fishing

So today was the first time my girlfriend and I tried out hands at fishing on the beach. We ended up out at opal beach on the sound side (she's self concious and there wasn't many people out there) well we got out there around 3 today and after we walked down a little ways and found ourselves a nice little spot away from other people I setup our poles and stuck our home made sand spikes in the sand and baited up (wrong bait) we were out there for around 3 hours and didn't catch a thing but she had a blast and I enjoyed the time out there fishing with her ( even after she tried to cast my baitcaster and caused a birds nest bigger than any I've seen before). We we fishing with cut bait even tho I said it wouldn't work she wanted to try anyways so I gave in I had a few strong bites but didn't land any. After around 3 hours out we headed back to find a ticket on the windshield for 125 bucks.... come to find out opal beach sound side is considered a national seashore and it costs 8 bucks to park there. The grass wasn't bad out today either.

You can buy an annual pass good at all the parks for around 40 bucks. Just lay it on your dash and good to go. Sorry the ticket hit you. Sound was dead - I live across from Opal beach although we did catch two smaller bull sharks on deep drop and loads of catfish on the spinning reels. Not much going on today on this end. Talked to some yakkers passing through and they were having the same kind of luck

The national seashore annual pass is only $25 so a fine 5 times that sounds a bit harsh IMO. I'd be calling and trying to negotiate.

That's what we're going to do on monday were going to call and see if there's something we can do about it because we had no clue about having to pay for the sound side. But overall it was a nice day out.

Man, sorry about your luck with the ticket. I was near Opal beach one year and was ran off by a Park Ranger. I had no idea that they "closed" at Sunset. I've also had park rangers say they are locking the gate but we were more than welcome to stay if we move our trucks outside of the gate. I guess it just depends on who is working that evening.

Happy to hear that you and your girlfriend enjoyed it even though there wasn't much action.
