Default what fish could have done this

about a week ago me and my dad woke up at sunrise to go fish off of a spot we call the wall. we were fishing from land using nothing but super spooks. i land two big trout:clap and as were about to call it a day i look over and my dads rod is so bowed it looks like hes trying to break his line because he snagged something. i then realize hes hooked up to something huge so i run over with the net and as the fish keeps peeling off line i look at his spool and hes almost down to his mono backing. i tell him to tighten his drag and the line snaps my dad was pissed.:banghead:doh:reallycrying what fish could have almost spooled 300 yards of 30lb power pro from shore then break the line.

If it was a fast run on a topwater lure i would guess at it being a bull red. Slow pull could be a big ray but they dont normally hit topwater. With braid having no stretch you have to be carefull on tightening drag on a run...i normally use my hand and slow the spool...last resort if low on line is to stop spool and break off or hope he turns.

prob a jack crevalle i dunno if a bull red could spool that unless it was heavy line on an ultra lite reel.

Large jack crevalle most likely, although you'd think 300 yds of 30# braid would havebeen enough.

I'M THINKING MAYBE A SKIPJACK, OR THATS WHAT WE CALL EM. LONG SLINDER SILVER WITH BLACK STRIPE AND SHARPPPPPPPPP TEETH. HAVE LOST A FEW LURES TO THEM. THEY DO SEEM TO JUMP ALOT TOO.

Jack Crevalle gets my vote. Those things are BAD to the bone on lite tackle.

I would say Jack Crevalle also. I have almost been spooled with 8# Ande Back Country on a bull red but not braid.

I was at hot spots I think when you came in! My guess that it was a jack crevelle!
