Default Weekend Report

The night fishing was much better than it was my last trip down in late June. We fished the lights around Ono Island and the fishing was good early. We arrived around 7PM from Birmingham, got bait, launched the boat and had a limit of slot reds by about 9:30 (sweet). Caught several nice trout as well all on free lined live shrimp. Friday night was pretty good as well. The wind was blowing pretty hard which difficult to hold the pier without spooking the fish. **** Want to let everyone know a great spot for slot reds.... We were rudely asked to leave a pier so I guess my revenge will be to let everyone know about it. From Perdido Pass going NE in the channel go past the no wake signs and the first pier on the right is RED HOT right now. We caught 3 reds in the 25 inch range there on Thursday and had just pulled up on it on Saturday when the owner came and stood on the end of the pier and asked us to leave. I asked if we could make a few cast and didn't say anything so I began to cast just short of the dock, using a weightand didn't want tohit him. I started explaining what I thought of him, informed him he does not own the fish, and my brother took the high road moving us off the dock.

Friday we made the run from Wolf Bay to Mobile to mess around to the day. We looked for Tripletail on the channel markers for a couple of miles after entering the bay from ICW, no luck. Ran to rigs caught a black snapper and gave up. Next stop, Dixey Bar where we trolled 6inch crank baits. We caught a nice spanish and several sharks around 3ft long. Ran around and trolled the beach. We only found one school of bait. All three rods went down at the same time. 3 fish 3 different directions. One rod got spooled and we land the other two. two bull reds in35 inch range.

Great report, glad you guys caught some fish. I love those guys who think they own the water because they have a pier, good revenge posting the location.

Nice report- Have to try out the dock and I'm sure others are going to give it a shot. Always looking for new places to fish.

The only public lake you would be able to access without a boat is Lake Purdy. It's SE of B'ham down HWY 280. They used to have boat and trolling motor rentals there, but I'm not sure if they still do. I've never fished it but its a beautiful lake to be inside a city. If you're going to be in Bessemer there are two resturants you need to try. The Brightstar would be a good choice for dinner and Bob Sykes BBQ would be good for lunch.

PS> My trolling motor died over the weekend and the boat will be in the shop. Otherwise, I'd take you fishing.
