Default Sound Report

Went to the beach this weekend and fished the Sound, had some luck top waterwith 18-20" specs on Fri only caught3 plus a couple of blow-ups, caught in 2-4ft of water over the grass. All released.

Fish were scattered, not bunched up, water temp 72 deg around 8am, up to 76/77 by 1pm.

Saturday, started pitching top water poppa dog jr's at 1st light where I caught the specs the day before, 2 or 3 blow ups and nothing! Burned some gas, ran around, used top water, jigs, suspending baits, nothing but 2 or 3 more stikes...switched to an in-line spinner bait, with a 3" gulp shrimp, got anice flounder about 15" on the 1st cast and that was it!

Moved around and tried some docks, used the power pole to sit between docks so my partner and I could fish both sides of the boat, hopped around, finally caught a 20.5" red on a popping cork with about a 20" leader and gulp shrimp. Had several other stikes on that set-up; Thanks to Chris Philips on the idea of the shorter leader from an HLS seminar!

Called it a day by 11am; my opinion is we are right around the corner from some great fishing.

Heading to Alligator Point, Big BendThursday and looking to get cramps in my arm from catching fish!:toast

Happy fishing!

Love these scouting reports! Did you fish the docks around Tiger Point and Villa Venyce? Also wondering if you fished the Big Sabine at all? Thanks for the info and good luck in the Big Bend.

Red was caught in the Villa Venice, Tiger Point area, don't get excited it was a lot of work, and one red out of all those stops and casting, yuk. If i wasn't determined I would not have caught the fish!!!!

it'll heat up soon, have fun!

This weekend we caught 4 reds total on the sound docks on the north side. Not huge, nearly legal/barely legal. Also got plenty of small specks. All caught on Johnson gold spoons.

Give the dropoff over at Opal Beach a try next time you're in the sound.
