Default Sarasota vaction snook

Im down here in sunny Sarasota Florida and decided to drag my flats boat the "TITLECHANGE" down with us on our family vaction to visist my cousins. Got here sunday night after a long tow down from Georgia. Got to Sarasota around 6 PM and decided to fish that night as my cousin had 60 shrimp waiting on me. Got out to snook alley around 10 pm and drove to the first spot which was a huge dock with giant white lights on it. We eased up with my new trolling motor and there was 10,000 snook just sitting there waiting for a snack to come down the pike.We cast live shrimp and topwaters at them and caught 2 Dozen snook in less than 1 hour at this spot. The dock was hot but we had a dock fisherman there and it was cripping our style so we moved on to the next spot which was a swinging bridge. This spot was on fire ! we caught the rest of our catch here consisting of 5 to 25 pound snooks on almost every cast. We released every fish we caught because we had nothing to measure with but we had several that would have made the slot. We caught them on crank baits and top waters that i had in the boat from lake fishing. The hot lure was the lazer eyes series by BPS, and a sammy topwater of all things. We caught a total of 57 snook , 2 redfish and untold lady fish for the night which ended at 4am. BTW the lady fish down here are huge ! and fight like a baby tarpon on crack . Fished monday night with the wife to see if she could catch here first snook. We could only fish 3 hours but in that 3 hours we caught 21 snook to 12 pounds and released them all. My wife was able to here first snook and 10 more so the night was a success and so is our total catch of 78 snook in 2 nights of fishing. Had to do disney Yesterday so no fishing last night but i have today and thursday and friday night to fish still. I havent fished durning the day as night fishing is just so much better , plus you dont have to sweat it out in the sun all day. Hope to post some more reports by the weeks end as well as post some photos. Till then tight lines guys.

I used to vacation every year in Casey key with my family, and we would catch box car loads of snook everynight. I love to catch snook they get acrobatic and wild.

Yea i wish we had them too, as they are such a great game fish. The problem is cold weather which they do not like. Went out last night , and the bite was slow till 2 am , then they went wide open . I caught a quick dozen and called it a night at 3 am. All fish were taken on rapalas and top water sammy's. Probabaly wont fish anymore , but with almost 80 snook for the trip we are done any way . Till next report .

Nice job!Snook are like redfish on roids and taste better too.Last time I snook fished was in Big Pine Key many years ago and caught the guys lying under mangroves and under Coast Guard cutters.Needless to say,the CG didn't like it too much.

yea the coast guard doesn't seem to have any sense of humor. My son and I used to walk down the fence at the coast guard station in destin, and we would wade the flats around and occasionally would wander inside the little bouys they have for their special area and they would come on the loud speaker and tell us we were in the off limits area specific area for the coast guard, and if you didn't leave immediately they would send someone down and they would escort you out politely past the markers.

I hear ya.One of the best redfish spots in our bay is around the navy base.I have been fighting fish and the chase boats run in on me and rip me a new one and send me on my way.I have however, had days where they never bothered me.They watch you closely on some days and others not so much.9/11 pretty much ruined it.
