Default Rookie Report

Well, the rookies from Mississippigave it an effort today. We started by going by Top Gun and talking to Dan for a few minutes and getting some bait to get started. He was helpful (thanks Dan!). We left my boys on the beach for a while with some shrimp while we went and got some things situated with the boat. They didn't have much luck in a couple of hours so we made a quick run to Outcast and talked to one of the guys there. He was really nice and very helpful. He got us really excited, although he didn't try to sell us a bunch of stuff we didn't need. We got some Gulp! alive 3" shrimp in new penny and some new jig heads, and we were on our way. We went to the 3Mile on his recommendation, because we really just wanted to catch some fish, and didn't really care what it was. We didn't get there until about 2:30, and had to be back at the Marina at 5:00, so it really didn't give us much time. The bite was really slow at the beginning, although we did have a couple of shrimp bitten in half right below the hook. Finally at about 4:00 we caught a few. A few white trout and one small red. From everything I've read, I feel like we must have been doing something wrong, except none of the other boats were catching anything either. We anchored and cast between the pilings of the bridge, let it sink, then bumped it along slowly back to the boat. Repeat over and over. Just not much luck. It was a really nice afternoon though, and it sure beat being at work! What should we do tomorrow? I read that some bonita have been spotted, and we've caught them before and they're fun. Anybody seen any? Anyone have recommendations for the Mississippi PFF rookies? Here's a picture of my youngest with his small catch. Maybe we'll run into some of you tomorrow.

-Curtis

The white trout have really been on the move. Anchoring worked a month or so ago, but now is a different story. Use a trolling motor to move around a bit and watch your bottom machine. Try a little shallower next time. A larger white bucktail jig will help you weed through the smaller trout, we have caught some 3 pounders on the bigger jig. The fish are there, just have to find the schools.

If you are gonna fish 3 mile go at night. You will catch a lot more fish. Use those gulps to catch white trout and then put the trout out for the reds.

Good report..It sure was beautiful today but I think tommorrow will be even better! Give it a shot..I dont know where you put in at but try Navy Point..Run to the pass and try fishing pickens and the Jetties with live shrimp ..There should be some Sheephead there..Prob some black drum and redfish too..If all else fails troll the drop offs with stretch 25's or look for birds for redfish or bonita in the pass or the beach..All in all have fun! Its going to be gorgeous with a SouthEast wind tommorrow!

If you have a heavy rod, put a big bait on the bottom. I've caught some legal grouper while jigging for trout and whiting around the middle of the bridge.
