Thanks everyone. Can the reds be filleted like abass or is there a certain technique not to lose any meat. Both those were released, but for future reference?

I filet them just like bass and dont seem to lose much. they have a tough ribcage though. just keep a sharp knife.

You definitely will belanding many more I suspect! I prefer to leave the skin on and grill with butter and seasoning...Redfish on the half shell...ooooh sooo gooood!

Congrats on your first reds. I second the Redfish on the halfshell. I like to oil/butter andseason the flesh side. Then put flesh side down on well oiled grill, med/high heat for 3-4 minutes to get some good grill marks, then turn grill down to med/low, flip to skin side down, close grill untill done. Top with lime or lemon juice and butter. Works good with sheephead too! Yum Yum.
