Over a sandy bottom I like to let the spoon settle on the bottom then lift up the rod tip and slowly let it flutter back into the sand. In the intercoastal over the grass just look for sandbars and potholes and do the same. I like to replace the treble hook with a quality single hook with some flash material on it. Try the 1/5 oz sidewinder or the 1/8 oz little cleo gold spoons. The small spoons definitely work better. Never have cared for spoons that wobble like the red ripper. I believe the fluttering action of the sidewinder, little cleo or johnson spoons catch a lots more fish.

That's an awesome hour and a half of fishing! I bet dinner was great! Great advice in the report and in the replies, I sure appreciate it. This forum has been such an asset for someone like myself learning everything I can about this sport from the ground up.
