Default Frozen Shrimp saved us...

Me and my awesome wife finally made it out this past weekend to try our luck. Wasn't in a hurry Saturday morning due to the fog. Got to the pass in PCB around mid morning to see numerous boats trolling for spanish, and quickly realized why. The fog was worse in the Gulf than we had realized it would be. Against my better judgement and hoping it would burn off soon, we headed out (which I will not do again). Visibility was low, so we took it nice and easy to a short hole about 6 miles from the pass, doubting my decision the whole time. After a few short triggers, snappers, and a couple of boats coming in on us way too fast for the low visibility conditions, we headed back in to protected waters (what a bust). Sunday morning brought new hope until we quickly discovered no one had live bait. Armed with frozen shrimp and little hope, we went to the edge of the jetties mid morning and to our surprise ended up catching several really nice red fish (over the slot) and a couple more of them that fell just within the slot. Also managed 4 pompano and a few spanish (kept only one). Who would have thought a container of frozen shrimp would salvage the fishing weekend?!

Good deal! BTW, if you go Publix or whatever, get a handful of their cheapest fresh shrimp and keep it on ice the whole time fishing. Cheaper than frozen bait shop shrimp and just as smelly.
fishwalton and tiger297 like this.
I can explain it to you but I can’t understand it for you.
