Default fishing report Perdido and Pens. Bay

We fished Saturday afternoonthrough Tuesday morning and the rain/wind really got in the way of what should have been an awsome trip. Nevertheless, we had a fairly productive trip when it comes to fishing, but had great time and great food.

Perdido Bay-- Fishing the lights has changed alot in the last month. Last trip down we caught some big reds and specs. This trip the specs were gone (only caught 1 and it was less than 10 inches) The reds we could find were very small. However, the white trout were out in full force and made for a good time reeling them in and a nice fish fry.

Big Lagoon--Never spent much time in the Lagoon but wanted to give it a try. I've read about redfish pt and trout pt just by looking at the maps I assumed both points are about half way across the lagoon on the southern bank. Is that right? The area we fished was a large grass flat and there was tons of bait and fish eating everything but our lures and we threw everything. The water was exploding with fish eating bait fish. Not sure what was feeding but the numbers were most impressive. Only caught a small spec and a monster gafftop.

Pensacola Bay and Pass--again never fished the area. We trolled the pass for over an hour using 6inch crankbaits 3-5 ft deep and got nothing so we gave up and decided to go exploring. Plan was to run to the sound for sightseeing. Schooling Kings cut our sightseeing off quick as we got about a mile past the pier at Ft. Pickens. We hooked up 5 times and only landed 2 kings (25lb range). We also caught two nice Spanish. There were several boats in the area drifting live bait and were doing a lot better than we were. We chased the fish around, butkept our distance from the other boats. Is trolling or drifting better? Also, will Kings eat Spanish?

One more question... just past the Ft. Pickens pier heading east there is a rock pile on the bank. We saw a boat pull up and drop a live bait fish down and hook up almost instantly on something that gave him a hell of a fight then broke off or got off. What types of fish would be there of that size???

I was thinking maybe one of those bay groupers but red does seem more likely.

I'll have to try that sometimes. It's amazing to me that the water is so deepthat close to shore. Is it dredged?would think that's natural.
