Default First trout from the Yak..

OK, so we rescued this kayak offshore last fall. Have yet to catch a fish from it.

Today I got home at 6:30 -- Old River was smooth as glass.

Grabbed a baitcaster (first mistake) with a jig on it and hit the Yak.

Paddled out to the flat and started casting. Third cast BAM!!!

Nice trout about 3 lbs. Very Cool!! First Yak Trout - first Yak fish.

Second mistake: No pliers. I have the teeth marks to prove it.

Put the trout in the "live well" betwixt my knees.

Third mistake, crotch now thoroughly soaked.

Few more casts and caught a pinfish.

Getting a bit cocky (even with the soaked crotch) and tried to give a mighty cast.

The gig hooked the back of the Yak and ...... The Mother of All Birdsnests.

Looks like it's time to reline and NEXT time take a spinning rig.

Pissed that it's over and released the really pretty trout to fight another day.

So now I'm a dedicated yakker.

No pics ... hell I didn't even have pliers.

I lived on a lake for a few years back. I had a 23 foot pontoon boat, a 22 foot deep V and a 15 foot canoe. Used the canoe all the time, the others, not so much. Keep the yak.

Yeah, I never carry pliers either. I pay with my fingers, but I save in the long run, as I like to travel light!!! Good job on your first yak trout. I've thought about yak fishing years ago, but I decided to go with a v-alum instead. GL!!!
