Choctaw Bay 4-9-09
Headed out of Joe's bayou this morniing around 8:00. We were going to try to catch some trout and spanish. The bay was nice
Headed east, wanted to fish the lakes just east of the midbay bridge
Fished the little inlet just east of the midbay bridge next to Regatta Bay. Looked nice, but nothing there. Tried topwaters, gulps, , popping cork, etc. No live bait.
Headed north across the bay to Lake Pippin, never had been there, but nice looking place. Has a 4' channel into it from the bay.
Opened up into a real nice inlet, looked real fishy.
But again nothing. The bay was the dirtiest I have seen it in a long time, at least that is my excuse. We decided to head to the Destin pass or crab island and troll for some spanish at high tide, so headed back. There were maybe 7-10 boats trolling just north of crab island so we joined in. Put out 2 rods, put on a gotcha and mackerel tree rig.
We had several cutoffs, managed to get 5 small bluefish on the mackerel tree, but that was it. Again, real dirty water.
Headed out to the jetties, both jetties had people fishing, didnt see anyone catching anything. Pass was rough.
Decided to just call it a day, stopped off at Dewey Destin's and had a grouper sandwich.
Still a good day. Heard on the radio that the water was dirty even in the gulf to the west of the pass, but was clearer to the east.

RE: Choctaw Bay 4-9-09
Thanks for the report. I am heading out today to search for some cleaner water in Choctawhatchee, I'll let you know if I find any.
