Default Bay Grouper vs. Gulf Grouper?

For you guys that seem to have success with bay grouper. Is your approach much different in the bay as opposed to offshore?

How deep do you have to be or does i matter?

A buddy of mine told me that Bay Grouper don't taste as good as Gulf Grouper. Any truth to that?

One of the most productive ways to catch them is to troll deep diving plugs.

They taste just as good as their offshore buddies do.

Bay and Gulf gags - no difference in taste -

But if by "gulf grouper" you mean Yellow edge and snowy- I give the edge to the deep water meat IMHO

As far as fishing for em - bay grouper hold tight to small wrecks or rock piles -so live baiting them, and getting them before they rock you, I think is more of challenge than offshore.

Trolling for them in the bay - when they hit theymosty charge out away from their protective structure so the success ratio after the hit is better than when they suck down a pin fish inches from a barnacle encrused something or other.

Offshore the challenge is finding them

35 -50 ft deep they almost yank you out of a boat much less flip you in a kayak

I have been in the bay and have caught 5 in one day and broke off on 8. this was my best day. normal with 2 people fishing is 2-4 grouper and getting broke off about 6-10 times

I've caught them in the pass...

under the mid bay bridge...

I would like to try some of the wrecks in the bay.
