Default Ace of Spades

Well I'll be, its a gosh darn SPADE FISH! caught em under the midbay bridge. We ended up with a couple black snappers too. That big spade was fivefriggin pounds!it was all good eating. Spade fish is down right delicious.

There were a couple other guys out on a boat a couple pilings down from us catching really nice black drum and sheephead.

ps accidently posted this under general chit chat, thought it was more appropriate under inshore reports. My bad.

Good job! Spade fish are delisious...delicate firm meat...surprised more people dont eat em.

I have caught em plenty of Bob Sikes with a sabiki rig with the littlest piece of a squid tail on each little hook. Caught quit a few 2 at a time..

Funny you ask.The guysI saw catching drum and sheephead were heading back in. I happened to know the guy driving the boat, he works over at a seafood restaurant on the harbor so we started chatting it up. He threw me a bag of scallop feet that he salvaged from the kitchen at his work, (they usually throw the feet out). They said they caughtsix black drum and 4 sheephead on the scallop feet. so sure enough I caught my spadeson the scallop feetwhile my buddy caughthis on raw frozen, headless shrimp. The spadeswere right below us, I hear they feed a lot like a sheephead.

nice fish btw.

jellyballs are those jellyfish that look like a mushroom. on the east coast we take 4 or 5 and put them om a 25 foot fish stringer then cut a frew up for bait and chum. throw the stringer out withe jellyballs on it then throw a handfull of the cut up pieces. the spadefish come in like gang busters! pick out the one you want and throw a hook baited with a small piece if jellyball and hang on!
