Default 3MB 3/10/09

Headed out to 3MB around 7 and the white trout were hitting the gulps on every cast. Probably around 9 i hooked up on a nice redfish using a gulp shrimp on a jig head. We chased him around with the boat because i was using my Shimano Sahara spooled with 8lb test...so didn't have much of a choice as he nearly spooled me. Got him up near the boat twice, and the third time he broke off before we could grab em. He was at least 35 inches, probably closer to 40. I was PISSED but it was a funnn fight. We caught and released a 32 inch red probably 30 minutes later. Shortly after that i hooked up on another red that hit a gulp, which broke me off much sooner this time. Broke off on yet another red after this, which is prompting me to re-spool with something a bit bigger, as all the break-offs were my main line, not my leader or knots. All in all a very active night, just wish i could have landed those three reds. sorry no pics of the 32 inch, only had camera phone, couldn't work the flash. Caught over 80 white trout, and will be using a few tomorrow for some redfish bait.

nice report, sounds like a good day. i love fishing three mile when i can. no boat, just kayak, so it can be hard to find a smooth enough day.

Good report. It can be tough to land those guys on light tackle. I use 8 and 10lb myself. It can be frustrating when you get a break off but that's the "joy" of fishing next to structure. I find that I get more hookups using lighter line than I do when using heavier line.

I had a BEAST of a redfish break me off last night using 10lb line. I'm talking 40" easy! I had him to the boat once. No way of turning him! I love those fights....of course my friend Ken had to show me up by landing his MONSTER red!

I got spooled as well the other night with an Okuma Sitnson SI 20 and 10 pound power pro. It was a big fish fo sho, but it was fun while it lasted.

yeah those fights are great fun, even when u get broke off. Maybe ill land em next time. I think it takes some skill and experience to land those big bulls on light tackle...both of which im lacking in lol.

Well I'd say you are on the right track to gaining that knowledge. Heck I'm right there with you.....I learn something every trip out!
