Default white trout?

I am new to the salt water fishing. I have had good luck with specs, but I know nothing about white trout. someone give me the info / as I want to add them to my hit list. What is their typical size? Are they as good to eat as specs? Where do you find them and how do you fish for them? Are they shallow enough to catch wade fishing?

They typically run from 3/4 pound (12") to about a pound and a half (18").
IMHO they fry up better than specks, smaller ones 10"-12" are great split and fried whole, and they don't have near the 'spaghetti worms' that specks do.
they occasionally invade the shallows, but usually at night.
Most I've seen during the day are on bottom in 8 to 20 feet deep (or deeper on the 3 Mile bridge).

Hope this helps!

They will hit just about anything. Live bait, grubs, cut bait, etc. You can use a carolina rig or double drop rig. When they are thick you can just about use a bare hook.

If you get into them thick and have a mess of fish try using cut white trout to catch them. It works great. Try quarter size pieces of bait on a small circle hook.

They will hit just about anything including cut bait of the same specie, mullet, croaker, etc. I used to catch them when fishing for specks with live and cut bait. But to tell the truth I have not caught any in the Choctawhatchee delta area in years. You don't hear a lot about them being caught in this area. That's my experience anyway. They are more likely to show up around the bay bridges I would think.
