Default white balloons?

I see a lot of people doing this wiht live menhaden. What's the purpose? Can't you just freeline them or use a bobber? do you use special balloons? Do you just tie them around the line? how much "leader"? when you get a fish on, how do you get the balloon out of the way?

Thanks!

Any balloon will do tie it just above about 18" min leader. Search the forum on king rigs. Float a live Menhaden out with the wind or tide and set the drag light for the first run. Besides that have fun.

They make a great and cheap bobber or float for any fishing. We used the small water ballon types for striper fishing with live Shad. They don't take up any room hardly in your tackle bag and can be adjsuted to size and depth at random.. Just blow up and tie a half hich to the line and you can slide it up and down the line. The bigger the ballon the more the faster the wind will take it away from the boat.
