Default Where The Reds At??

Went out today lookin for some sheepshead... Couldnt find em, so decided to move out to the pass to try and catch a bull red or two.... Got out around the pass and there are hundreds of birds and bait is jumping everywhere... Cast out mirror lures no hits.... cast out live shrimp nothin... What was the problem?

Me and my brother had some luck with reds in upper Escambia Bay today (Sunday afternoon) on the grass flats with some gulp shrimp. About 8 boated and three within the keeper range. We didn't kill em today by any stretch, but they were definitely tailing all over the place.

I dove the 3 barges yesterday and there were two (over slot-sized) reds hanging out in the wreck. Had to leave the reds alone with the spear guns of course, but we pulled half a dozen flounder off the barges along with some sheepshead. They made for a pretty good fish-fry last night.

I will try and post some video of the dive on the spearfishing thread soon.

Hope this helps.

Had the same problem this weekend at the pass. Bait and Birds everywhere but no reds. We tried everything I could think of to get one to bite with no success. Maybe it is the slow current but I would have thought I could have atleast hooked one. Maybe someone will have some answers for you.

Also tried the pass Friday and Sunday. No Reds, small red snapper and one bluefish and one Spainish along with huge pinfish. Thousands of birds eating very small bait of what I don't know but this water was full of it. Also bonito were present.
