Default Visiting Pensacola Bay and Perdido Bay 6/27 - 7/1

Moved this from General Chit-Chat, more appropriate:

Hi, new here, coming down to Pensacola to visit my son Kyle who is training at Pensacola Naval Training center 6/27 - 7/1.

I'm bringing a couple Ocean Kayaks, never fished inshore/offshore other than Chincoteague Bay on the DelMarVa Penn. a couple years ago for flounder. Yum.

Anyway, I'm bringing couple 12' surf rods for the beach, couple 8.5' MH and H steelhead rods for inshore, maybe 6.5' spinning for son 'til he gets used to casting from yak.

I'll be camping in Perdido Bay/Lillian area, any tips on inshore fishing for ??? trout, snapper or drum?

Thanks in advanced and God Bless!

LMJ

Plenty of places around there to catch specks, flounder, redfish. Look for the grassbeds, piers or bridges for starting points. Grubs, jigs, and live bait (shrimp, pinfish, pigfish) should be available. Small casting tackle will be sufficient (10#-15#).

Be safe and have fun!

Thanks Bro Cuz, Can you provide a link to tide info for the area? I have found nav. charts for the atlantic coast in the past, I'll have to search those out for the Bays there too, we drifted the tide w/minnows off the bottom for flounder, I'm assuming the same technique works in the bay and/or channels?

You will have morning high tides 0500-1000hrs.andnight lows. We have 12 hr. tides not 6 hour which progress foward about 1hr daily for the dates you mentioned. Drift fishing will work here also. Specks work jig/grub, also topwater early/late in the day.

Thanks again, jig/grub good, use those here in Ohio River for white/hybrid bass, sauger, eyes, etc.

I pour 3oz lead spoons, any advantage/use in deeper areas?

Also are Storm/Tsnaumi shad/bunker bodies productive?

Pencil poppers? Or am I getting into surf zone with those baits?

Ok here goes, 1/4oz jig head with chartrues(french word) grub for starter, jerk shad in pearl rigged weedless, gold johnson weedless spoon(redfish) for top water skitter walk, zara spook in your choice of colors. Live bait small pin fish under a popping cork for specks, reds, and flounder. Straight flounder use bull minnows fished on a carolina rig. Water depth 8 ft or less. The grass beds will be about 3-4' deep.
