Default Tripletail

Where, when, why, and on what? Caught one by accident by the bridge to St George Island last year. It tried to turn me inside out. Are there enough of these around to target them cuz it was some good eating.

They get them a lot more down in Port St Joe and Apalachicola bay, not sure why at all. Maybe they just don't migrate further than that much? I have not heard of many around here but I see reports of them East of us pretty regularly.

Your best bet is in the warmer months around Apalachicola, St. George, etc. Find crab pots, pylons, any structure and sight fish or toss out a live shrimp. They won't start moving in there until April or May though.

They usually show up in june-august around the crab trap bouys. Saw one last summer in gulf breeze that was probably 12-15 lbs.

I've caught them when the weather is smoking hot, little wind and the water is calm where you can see them around structure. Throw a live shrimp at them or if you cant see them, throw up close against the structure, if they dont take the bait after a few minutes they probably arent there.

Default Triple Tail Island hopping

The most triple tail I have found are on weed lines when Cobia fishing near Petite Bois and Horn Island. Use a small jig and work it fast by the trple tails. Slowly drift the weed line and you will end up corralling them at the end of the weedline. Use medium to heavy gear but be sure to use fluorocarbon.

If it floats it holds a triple tail. They will attempt to mimic their surroundings.
