Default Stuck on Shore

Hi there everyone. I'm new to posting on the forums but i've been reading them periodically for a few months now. I've been fishing all my life and was born and raised right here in sweet 'ol destin. I've just recently decided to get back into inshore fishing after a 10 year stretch of some serious off-shore time. I love catchin me some redfish but I'm limited to shore at the moment.

I was wondering if anyone knew of some spots I can get to by foot in order to hook up on some slot reds and trout. I'm tired of catchin all the big fish. I wanna take it down a notch with light tackle inshore fishing for a while.

The Naval Live Oaks area is a great place to wade fish for trout and reds.

You sound like me except my offshore days are over -too expensive -too many hours of diesel fumes etc. it's no longer for me.

You can wade fish anywhere on the north side of Hwy.98 between ft. walton beach and destin -also where people park at the beach on the west side of destin across the bay , wade out onto the sand bar and have at it.

Get a "sabiki rig" at half hitch tackle or just some tiny hooks and catch some pinfish or such and toss them in using a carolina rig set-up.You'll catch some reds if you stick with it.

I've caught more gulf reds than I count with a calculator. I was hoping to target reds and trout in the bay. My buddy is trying to convince me in buying a kayak, and honestly the more he runs his mouth about it the better its starting to sound. I was looking at bass pro and they have a very nice model out, fitted perfectly for my needs for around 500 bucks. It's just convincing the wife that a kayak is something I need and not just something I want.

Otherwise I'm still stuck on shore. I was fishing the coast guard station this afternoon and didn't get a single bite, but those guys on the other side of the jetty there were hammering the trout and reds and I about threw my rod into the water andfelt like crying.. I got fed up with bad fishing for the first time in my life... very depressing. I almost wish I never had to get rid of my boat so I could be out trollin the kings right now.

You should go down to the flats behind legendary marina, behind Regatta Bay. You can park there and get in the water there. This flat is huge with tons of grass. Also the opposite side of the midbay bridge at White point. Also go in Kelly Plantation and drive back to old plantation place and follow to the end of the road, it will make a circle. You can park in the bushes in the circle and use the common area dock and wade out to these flats, they are really good as well. I have a boat and a kayak. Get the kayak.... it will open up so many other opportunities than just wading can offer. Good Luck
