Spanish mackerel tips and rigs
I heard the spanish run was comig up soon and I've never really fishing or them before so does anybody have any tips for trolling for them inshore. What rigs should I use? Line strength? Anything is appreciated. Thanks!

You can use whatever you use for lite duty trolling. I have a small Calcutta perfect for them (25-30#). Smaller spoons- we often use Clarkspoon- I like the Mackerel Duster Rig! Spanish Mackerel are really spooky, we often shut down and use the trolling motor to ease up on them and throw bubble rigs to them on med-lite tackle (fun!). My stepson likes the Striker Gatcha plugs. I often pick up larger ones on our king rigs and cigar minnows.
Hope this is helpful.

I don’t troll for Spanish but when I target them I’ll use a ¼ or ½ oz. silver Clark Spoon or a Gotcha plug on 20 lb Suffix mono with about 18" of light wire leader; they’re toothy critters and can cut ya off sometimes.
