Default Shore/Kayak fishing Fort Pickens 1st timer

Heading over Saturday thru Tuesday to Fort Pickens. Will have kayaks and also smaller kids to fish with. Never been there before or fished in pan handle at all.

1. How is the kayak fishing around Fort Pickens, in the bay? What's hot and what are they hitting?

2. Best place to take kids other than pier? I have all light tackle so I'm not much into piers but if it's that much better than shore I will figure something out!

Thanks

Just be aware that kayak fishing, especially with kids, around fort Pickens can be quite dangerous. The reason is the pass is very close by and can be susceptible to extremely fast currents and they can change in a hurry. There are a few deaths there every year. Just a heads up. Hope you guys have a great trip.

As per the previous post, the current can be very dangerous near Pickens and there are many drop offs. You can park in the lot at the entrance to the park and fish or kayak on the Sound side, where the water is safer. There are grass beds near shore that hold trout and redfish. Have fun and be safe.
