Default Sea grove beach aug 15-20 help

I am vacationing here next week and needed a little help with fishing off the beach. I'm from Houston so fishing in Galveston there are not many reg as long as you have a fishing license. A few questions,
Any problems fishing off the beach?
I use a 6'6" Allstar rod med 12lbs line with 30 lbs mono or steel leader. Ok setup?
Surf rod 12' heavy 30lbs line steel leaders.
Plastic colors used?
Bait?? (I like to use peeled shrimp). What's the best to use in shore?
Any vaca tips would be helpful since I am going with my three boys. This is are first time to Destin.

Ever in Texas, the forums below are the best place for advice.

Thanks from TX

Default fishing

you will need a FL fishing lic. and wont need the steel leader here i will work against you in the clear water. Water is much cleaner here than Galveston. Beachs are more crowded and ALOT bigger so fish early and late and you will be fine.

Small hooks, Small leader, peeled shrimp. Can't go wrong. If you like throwing artificials those silly willy jigs or a regular pomp jig are good but the lady fish won't leave you alone. Also, plan on weeding through catfish, ladyfish, and pinfish to get to the pompano, whiting, and reds. The fishing is usually better the couple hours leading up to high tide and if it is dead flat it's usually not as good as when it's stirred up a little.

I work at a resort and the crowds should not be that big a problem. Today and tomorrow is a big checkout day and not to many guest are checking in. As far as surf fishing find a washout and fish it. peeled shrimp is always good for whiting if you can keep the bait stealing pinfish off. Best bet is to go the yellowfin tackle by eastern lake. They will help you out with bait and anything you might need.

Ser182. go to this site http://www.visitsouthwalton.com/visitor-guide-brochures and click on "Beach Goers Guide" In the brochure are the regulations about personal stuff on the beach. The rules are fairly tolerent but don't leave anything over night. It may not be there the next morning if the Code Enforcement Officer passes by. This has become a hot button issue in Walton County and authorities are picking up loads of gear left on the beach at night.
