Default Santa Rosa Sound

Haven't ever been any good at catching redfish and specks but I am about to start working on a project on the beach down at portofino. Since I'm going to be that way every day and they won't let us start work until 9 I figured it would be a good time to get a little better at catching them. I've fished the grass flats near bob Sykes and I know you can get them on the north side of the sound. Any grass flats or drop offs near portofino on the south side of the sound or will I be fishing for nothing. Plan on being out there around 7 am most of the time. Should I bother trying that area or stick to the flats near shoreline? I'm not asking for anybody's personal honey hole, just some advice on structure and environment that way. Thanks in advance!

Google earth can be useful. You might be able to find some accessible grass flats/drop offs with it near your work site.

They (specs, reds, flounder, spanish) are there around Portofino. Even better...go just a little further east to Big Sabine and wade. Park right before the motorized parachute airstrip and walk north. Follow the footsteps.
