Default Rig set up help

I got me a pole n now need to get some line n hooks. About what size hooks for general fishing so I don't have to buy a dozen different sizes. Any help brothers would be much appreciated.
My reel is a penn750 so I was thinking 40-50lb line. But braid or ???

I'd go with braided line. You can fit more line on your spool because its diameter is much smaller than a mono of equal tensile strength. 15lb braid is equivalent to 4lb test size and so on. Plus you can cast a mile with the stuff, it's easier to detect strikes and sets the hook better than mono if you're not using circle hooks. I usually use 20-30lb braid with a 30-40lb flouro leader.

I don't think color makes much of a difference especially since the color on braided line seems to rub off a little bit, but I usually stick to green around salt water, it's the more natural of the colors of braided. I think red is used more around tannin/muddy colored fresh water.

What size rod? I have a few penn 750ssm's on 7' rods that are spooled with 250 yds of 20lb mono. You'll get a ton of braid on there but it will cost a lot. I use it for bottom fishing and free lining for whatever bites. I wouldn't want to do a lot of casting with my setups due to the weight of the rigs. I have a 550 for inshore that does a nice job on reds, trout, etc

I have that same set up, 7foot rod n all. Thinking about it most braid only comes in 150 yards. The big fish here run that far when hooked?

IMHO, go with the 20 lb (may I suggest Power Pro) braid for all reasons listed above. Same for the flouro leader (if using 20lb main line, add, at least, 30lb leader). 2/0, 3/0, or 4/0 circle hook (I mostly use 3/0 and 4/0). BPS sells 100 and 300 yds of braid and will spool it for you for no additional charge.

I live in Niceville, so I go to the one in Destin. I believe that there's one west of P'Cola off I-10.
