Default Redfish Transplant

Just got back from Simpson's River. The redfish bite was nonstop, caught 10 or 11. I kept the last one I caught for dinner and took him home.

Anyways, when I get home, I put the fish on the filet table and he starts jumping around. I really hate cutting into alive fish, so I took him to my pond out in front of my house and tried to revive him. I didn't expect much life to come back to him, but he swam with no problem whatsoever!

What are the odds that he makes it in the long run? I know reds can survive in pure freshwater and he was only out of the water for 20 minutes. It's a one acre/12 feet deep pond stocked with bluegill and bass.

I would like to hope that I might catch him out of the pond one day. Or did I just doom him to die a slow, painful death?

You might have a problem after a few years, look what they did in Texas.

Just did some research. It appears as if the fish should adapt to the new environment and food source, perhaps after some initial difficulty.

It will not reproduce regardless of the number of companions added. This is because they reproduce in the open ocean, a high salinity environment.

The largest concern is water temperature. Redfish can survive from 36F-100F, but smaller ponds are much more likely to exceed these numbers compared to larger bodies of water like the bay or river.

That's awesome, you don't think he'll try to wipe out everything in there?

I would think they eat way more frequently than a bass.

I don't think just one fish will wipe anything out, but if he does, then it's a good excuse to restock. I'm adding more bait here soon however, so food is not about to be a problem for him and the bass.

I fished Fairfield when we were drilling the supply wells for the WallyWorld distribution center fire system in Palestine. Gives you a heart attack throwing at bass and having a bull red crush your bait. They also had stripes hybrids stocked and were talking about sticking flounder in the lake.
