Default Pompano caught in bay??? Odd or not???

I saw a guy catch a pompano last Sunday near NAS pensacola by Bayou Grande. Is that unusual?

I don't think so. I've seen them caught off of Bob Sykes with a Gotcha before and by Garcon

They will move into the bays and grass flats. Not uncommon.

Not this time of year. caught a couple in Old River just weat of OnO Bridge. Not very big.

I have never targeted pompano but I have caught them. I caught all mine at the old Pickens Pier during the time you could fish it in a boat since the road out there was closed. A small jack crevelle can be confused with a pompano- not saying that was the case when you saw one caught. Bottom line for me- people run over a lot of fish when they are heading for the Gulf.

Just watched a show where a guy was catching them on the grass flats on the Indian River in Jensen Beach, a few miles from the nearest pass.
