Default Pensacola Bay Question

I'm new to this site and appreciate everyone's information. I'll be visiting Pensacola for the first time over Labor Day (with boat).

I noticed that there are restricted waters near the Naval Base. Are they clearly marked or is it easy to enter them if you are unfamiliar with the area? I have access to the base and plan to launch from there.

Also, do I understand correctly that the red snapper season is still open on the weekends? Or was that dated info?

Thanks for any info.

You can put in at Sherman Cove. I have not been close enough to know if its clearly marked. But its no where near where you will be putting in. Snapper opens this weekend for weeekends only through OCT. Good luck

http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/11383.shtml

You can see the restricted water on this chart. You may be abke to find a more detailed version by googling "noaa chart pensacola bay pdf" or just "noaa chart 11383"

If i recall correctly, the only signage is on land.

You can see buoys in a long line off the shoreline around the base, don't go inside that buoy line and I think you should be ok.

Thanks for everyone's info. I saw the Navy guard boat near the LCS and kept my distance.

No luck with the snapper, but was able to mark some locations for next time. I didn't realize how fast the current moves, especially with an E wind.

Welcome to the forum. The line of buoys is very close to shore and they don't affect fishing in the bay except close to the dock in the area called Turning Basin. Wish we could fish for trout close to shore in Bayou Grande but there are lots of other places to fish.
