Default Penn Battle Reels ?

As you can tell from my username, I'm primarily a flyfisherman but I'm curious about these Penn Battle reels.

I bought one yesterday (primarily for my son-in-law to use when he visits us). It's the Battle BTL7000.

Has anyone used them? Any thoughts?

I bought it at Bass Pro in Daphne and they told me it was the greatest thing since sliced bread...but I was just curious.

Thx.

I have two 4000 size Battles. An excellent reel for the money and noticeably better than the Sargus. I have no complaints about these reels.

Best reel for the price hands down. Has HT-100 drag material (same stuff used in the Internationals). Very solid reels. Strong, smooth, great drags, not much to complain about.

Thanks guys...since I never catch anything anyway, I'm not sure how important it is about the drag...but it's good to know just in case.

Seriously, I appreciate the feedback.

I use the battle 7000 offshore on a torque jigging rod. Its a great reel for the money. I have caught many ajs, grouper, snapper, and kings using it. I got it when it first came out and its still holding up like its brand new.

I have 10 of them, 5, of the 4000, and 5 of the 3000 along with some Conquers, both reels are great.
For the money, the Battel is a very good reel. They both have the same drag system. Only real difference is one reel is metal and the other is graphite and the Conquer has more bearings.
Tight lines..

Again...thanks for the feedback.

The one I have is a 7000 series. I wanted it for tarpon fishing...which, I'm afraid, is about over for this year.

While I love to flyfish for them, sometimes you see fish that are out of range for flies. A friend turned me on to some large "pitch baits" (large plastics) that he uses in the Keys for fish that are out of fly range. I plan to spool this up with braid for better casting distance.

BTW, we hooked a 150 lb fish (live bait) last weekend and faught her for about 40 minutes before we lost her. Quite a show.
