Default An Old School Speck Rig

Just though I would share a Speckled Trout rig with everyone that I have been using for years. My father and grandfather used to use these as well and passed this on to me. I have never seen anyone else using these that I can recall. While its not always the best thing to use it does a pretty good job at times and is just something else to use in your arsenal. It consists of a small, clear, teardrop shaped plastic float like the one pictured below. Main line attaches to the small end with about 16" - 24" of 15lb. mono or fluro. attached to the big end. To the end of that you attach a small jig such as a 1/8 ounce maribou jig. I always preferred white but you can use whatever you like. You just don't want it to be able to sink the float. To fish it you kind of use a long jigging stroke pulling the float across the surface about 2 ft. each time, reel in slack, repeat.

I have always called that a "bubble rig" and have landed some nice specks, reds, and Spanish with them.
