Default Okaloosa Island question

I'll be staying on Okaloosa April 18-25. I'm planning on surf fishing a lot, but also want to try fishing in the bay/sound (whatever it's called.) I was thinking of wading while casting artificials. What can I expect to catch out there? Are there any good parking lots you can recommend me starting at? Any other advice would be appreciated, such as lures or any tips. Thanks!

If you fish the grass beds... Reds mostly and an occasional spec.

Good fishing on the Flats ,as for a parking lot -there's one on the right west side of the bridge. There's the jetties -beach there .

The parking on the west bound lane [bay side] seems to have been closed , there are now Eglin AFB signs so be sure you can be there.

Thanks for the input. Any lure recommendation? I was thinking a shallow diving rapala or swimbait. I'm not a rookie fisherman, but am new to the flats. I'd like to bring my boy too. He's 9, so a lure that's easy to retrieve or work for him would be perfect.

Silver and/or gold spoons -they are a great fish catcher in the bay.

I'm keeping it simple this year -gulp - live shrimp and cast net bait all under a popping cork .
