Default newbie question

I just got my grandparents 19ft pontoon boat running ready to fish so I'm eager to get out in the bay. Their boat dock is by the Archie Glover boat ramp and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on fishing in that area or in the bay not too far from there. Not looking for anyone's "honey hole" but just some general areas/techniques near there. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how far you are planning on going but from I10 bridge to hwy90 bridge is loaded with sail cats. Popping cork with live or dead shrimp. Also the fishbites strip in the shrimp flavor works just as good. You can also go into mulat bayou and hit the edges of the grass. This will produce a lot of rat reds and smaller specs with the occasional keeper. I will use 1/4 Oz jig head with vortex shad kamikaze or fishbites pearl paddletail. I have heard Garcons point bridge has been producing but I haven't hit that area yet.

Thanks for the info I will try that! Are sail cats good to eat? Growing up we always threw them back but I've heard recently of people eating them

I have actually never tried them. I have been told they are good though. I have never really been a huge catfish eater but they are fun to catch and there are some good size sail cats in that area.

From what I have read Sail cats are good, and hard head catfish (the ones which look just like a fresh water catfish) are not good to eat. Just rumor I haven't eaten either.

FYI, the best fishing this time of year's going to be further down the bay and in the sound. Might be a long run from Archie Glover unless you can trailer the boat down to 3mile or Shoreline park.

Your area will start to heat up this Fall when the water starts to cool off. Especially this winter, any deep water up in that area all the way to the mouth of the Escambia river will hold trout and reds when the shallows get too cold. Takes some time but when you find the fish, they'll stay in the same deep holes most of the winter.

Good luck!
