Default Need some blue crab advice

Been wanting to get into blue crabs for a while, any advice on the best bait and areas in the water to put them in? I have one pot soaking now with a can of sardines in it, only thing I had at the time. Thanks in advance

Are you talking recreational? We usually drop about 4 traps in the fall to collect some crab meat for gumbo. My wife likes using chicken- I use as much fish cleaning refuse from the fishing we do that time of year... Redfish refuse and mullet seem to work well. I seemed to pick up a higher number when I used red snapper refuse too. We drop the traps at various locations around the marina at our condo.
I seem to do better in deeper water (10-18 ft) in the marina than shallow. I used to feel like we got better crab (bigger) the fall- but we did pretty good this spring too. I always released the female carrying eggs (we usually see those later in the year).
Maybe you'll get some more suggestions soon-
Hope this was helpful

Like the above post mentioned, chicken. Necks are great. As is anything "greasy". You can also use a dip net for a little fun, or if you have patience. I've even gone out to the beach at night with a pole net and scooped them up. Snorkeling you can even grab them with tongs or a mini net. They're every where if you look. If you're using a trap be careful where you put it, they've been known to disappear. Catch em up!
