Default in or near....suggestions?

I'll be down there in the gs/ob area next weekend for the first time in a while. i broke my leg earlier this year (tib/fib) so i haven't been able to get down there and wet a line since january. i've usually come down in the spring or summer, and a few times in nov/dec, but never really in october. i have the option of bringing my boat, which will limit me to bay only, or bringing my kayak, which will let me fish the beaches nearshore too. what is going on where this time of year? i got sails on the mind after a post i just read in the kayak reports section, but how close in do they come? what i'm riding in (kayak v. boat) is not as important to me as getting on some type of fish.

Thanks in advance for all those willing to share their knowledge with those not fortunate enough to still live down there.

I am not familiar with fishing in the OB area or with fishing bills, but I have been working in the area for the last 2 months. I have to say that today I saw the most baitfish activity in the gulf that I have ever seen. Their was no surf due to the winds but there was bait getting busted everywhere. Near shore, afar from shore, and every where in between. One would of had a hell of a day today out there in a kayak.

i'm thinking now what i should have thought of before i posted this: throw the yak in the boat and drive down if the water is absolutely flat i can make it out of a pass in the cc, but i wont go more than 1/4 mile from it.
