Default Little Lagoon -Gulf Shores questions?

Well we are heading back down to the Gulf this Thursday for the weekend, this time we will be staying in Gulf Shores. Heading out on a charter boat to fish friday that my dad has booked so i have no clue about it, but the condo is across the road from the beach on the lagoon side with a big pier going out into Little Lagoon just a few houndred yards from the pass to the ocean. Can anyone help a good ol North AL boy out and give me a few pointers on good ways to waist my time fishing rather than just rolling around in the sand on the beach? I figured I could try fishing off the pier in the lagoon or maybe some early morn/late afternoon beach fishing. Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance and God bless you!

If the pier has lights between midnight and daylight. Freeline a live shrimp and you should pick up a variety of Redfish trout and flounder. Most of the piers have lights but may or may not have fish. Not sure about yours but I have caught fish off most of the piers.

Not sure but don't think this pier has lights on it, you think it would work if I set up a couple bright lanterns? And when you say free line a live shrimp is that just a hook and a shrimp or do you put a weight, leader anything else?
