Default Kings

Can you catch kings from the shore? If so where would you recommend?

The kings are gone for the Winter I'm afraid. There will be a few stragglers that didn't get the whole water temp memo, but for the most part they're all gone.

When they're running can they be caught from shore?

I never have, but there was a report on here where a guy caught one off the beach on cut ladyfish....

Several Kayak anglers catch them close to shore...

They will be back in March when the water warms up...

Yes it's doable but very challenging because you have to match the right conditions with the right gear and lively baits. Best bet is to float a live hardtail out under a balloon on a day with a strong north wind. You're going to need A LOT of line though to be able to let the balloon out 200-300 yds PLUS have at least 200yds left on the spool to fight the fish with.

Good luck!

It's been almost 20 years, but when I was about 10 years old I did catch a King from the rock jetties just west of the Ft Pickens Pier.

I've seen a few picked up from the Destin Jetties as well. Hooked one there on a flyrod one time. Did not have him on long, but long enough to make a definite ID.
