Default how to use lures?

I've been pier fishing most of my time here in pcola with died shrimp. I just recently acquired a boat. I'd like to try using lures.

What would you guys recommend to stock my tackle box with and how exactly do you use them?

also fishing pole setup? I notice a lot of people use small pole with small reels. is that better for fishing with lures?

Welcome to the hemorrhage money club. Its a great world. Lure selection depends on the fish, and also depends on what water columns/depths you will be fishing, as well as your type of presentation. A couple of easy to use, must haves for our area include; gotcha plug, top dog (or similar top water plug), gold spoon, X-rap, a variety of buck-tail jigs (make sure to get small ones, they work for everything), Gulps, jig heads, fluorocarbon leader. Its all about the presentation, most fish hit the lure on the fall down. Good luck.

what are you fishing for? Where you plan on going? What have you been catching with dead shrimp?

I'd recommend whatever you have confidence in. If you like shrimp fishing then throw a doa shrimp (or cheaper knock-off) and do work. All depends on the situation and what you are feeling good about.

Simple answer for inshore: Skitterwalk (pink, bone, whatever color you like), plastic jerkbaits (fin-s, saltwater assasin, gulp, whatever. white is a good color, so is bone, chart, anything that has something to do with a chicken) and a spoon. Add a yozuri diving minnow if you want to go crazy. All good inshore trout and redfish baits. Another good idea is pm capt wes, he usually sells off some tackle, and might be able to put you a "kit" together.

well lately i've been in the pass, and over by 3 mile bridge and the bridge going to pcola beach. getting familier with the ramps and waterways. The only thing i've ever caught here is white trout off the piers. Which are good but i'd like to be able to catch something bigger and give more fight. something picture worthy.

ive seen a lot of the inshore reports here and I wonder how they are catching these huge fish. (reds, sheeps, popano, etc)

this past weekend i was on the water. I noticed a flock of birds hovering around an area. as we where going through my fishfinder was showing fish everywhere. I told my buddys we should stop and fish here to see whats there. but we didn't. and probably didn't have the right tackle anyway.

i'm assuming all that stuff you guys posted is something i can get at walmart right.?

Lures are great, fun, and more rewarding, but if you're wanting to increase your odds of a fish fry don't forget live bait especially live shrimp. Everything eats shrimp. I would recommend popping corks. Works really well with live bait or soft plastics. Free lining live shrimp around structure is good.

For big fish in the bay rig your boat to troll. Buy some Mann's stretch 18, 25's. Which are large crackbaits and number represent the depth they dive. Look for some 5 to 9" crankbaits that run less than 5' deep as well. Good luck.

Yes, everything listed can be found at wal mart if you know what to look for. If you want to know what to get, how to use it, when, where, etc go to hot spots in breeze. they are good about sharing the knowledge.
