Default Houses/Condos near good fishing in Pensacola

Hey guys,

First of all wow, this is one heck of a site.

I'm mostly a trout guy, but a few trips to the gulf coast the past 18 months has me crazy for all things saltwater. I made a post on NGTO (North Georgia Trout Online) asking for recommendations and a guy pointed me here. I'm glad he did.

We will be going down again in late-October and plan to charter a vessel to hopefully chase some red snapper. So first of all, any recommendations on a great captain would be awesome.

But the main question I have is looking for suggestions on areas to begin my search for a house or condo. I know nothing about Pensacola, so I'd really appreciate some local info. We're looking for a house or condo (something like a VRBO) for 7-8 people and a baby. We would prefer it to be on or near enough to the water to walk out and fish when we're not on the piers or boats.

I have found numerous homes that look great and are on the ocean, but I have no idea if there's decent fishing nearby or if it'd be more swimming and water recreation-focused.

We plan to do some inshore (possibly some deep sea) and pier fishing, but we'd also love to give surf fishing a try. I'll also be bringing a 9wt fly rod so anything that would give me a chance to catch a saltwater fish on a fly rod would be even better. (I've never caught a saltwater fish on the fly yet.)

I have some time and will be doing plenty more research in the coming weeks and months, but I have found through experience that there's absolutely no substitute for local information shared by those who have been there, done that.

Thanks for any input.

Great site!

There is fish in them there waters buddy.

Surf fishing on the Gulf side (We have no ocean here).

Sound side wade fishing on the grass flats. (North side of the Island)

You can hook many Red Snappers, but can keep very few of them during the season.

I doubt that October will be Red Snapper season

Give me a shout when you get plans nailed down, and I can maybe get you on some bull reds with that fly rod. I'm a North Georgia transplant myself

You might make it for NASCAR in the bay if the Bulls come in.
