Default got a question about gutting sharks?

The wife and i want to go shark fishing and dont know a lot about it. we saw that on black tip your supposed to leave some meat on the skin so it doesn't touch the skin, do you do this with all shark? also they say that they are supposed to be gutted immediately, how do you do this in a boat if sharks are supposed to be landed in whole condition?. any help is appreciated.

Gutting (aka Dressing) is fine. You're just taking the guts out. "Landed Whole" for the FWC just means the head, body, fins and tail. They basically want to be able to see what type of fish it is, and how long it is.

What about skinning them? do you leave some meat on the skin, or are you ok to leave it on? Except for the black tip?

I'm not sure who told you to skin them (even black tips)? But I've never heard of anyone doing this. I can only imagine that a skinned shark with the bare meat exposed to ice and nasty cooler water probably isn't the "best" for the meat.

BUT, this is getting out of my expertise, so someone else will hopefully chime in.
