I’m originally from Pensacola but it’s been about 10 years since I fished the beach area. Could someone just give me a tip on catching the flounder this time of year? Bay side or gulf side? Tide coming in or tide going out? I plan on using a jig head with a gulp. Thanks!
3/4 oz jig with finger size strip of mullet attached. Use mono line. Braid keeps the jig off the bottom when current is present. Bob Sikes bridge, EPA station and docks around Gulf Breeze would be a good place to start. Just shake the jig along the bottom without hardly reeling.
If you can throw a net, live bull minnows, pilchards or finger mullet on a Carolina rig fished slowly around rocks, docks and structure is simple and deadly. If not, Reelthrill's advice or a Berkley Gulp minnow or shrimp tail on a grub head. As he said, slow or slower.
I have caught them on soft plastic jerkbaits on a carolina rig. As with other baits for flounder, you need to give them time to swallow it once they pick it up and move off with it.
