Default Fish Identification Help Please

When I'm catching bait, I sometimes get these guys along the waters edge. They're pretty hearty and stay active and alive well but the jury is still out on whether they're good bait. I do much better with mullet fishing in Santa Rosa Sound.

Anyone know what they're called? Anyone know of any good websites to identify the different baitfish in this area?

Someone I know had mentioned bull minnows but wasn't sure. I've been tossing them back lately but if they're good flounder bait, I'll give them another shot.

Actually it's a Striped Killifish Fundulus majalis (aka TigerMinnow).

Some folks in this area like them and some flounder bull minnow fishers consider them less desirable than the Gulf Killifish Fundulus grandis (aka Bull Minnow).

Subtle differences, but that's all it takes sometimes ;-)

Yes after looking at several pictures, I think it is the TigerMinnow or fundulus majalis aka Striped Kilifish not the Gulf Kilifish.

I've always been fascinated by fish and the differences in fish species so the distinction is appreciated. Though I imagine that around here they're all Bull Minnows to make things easy. Either way, I'll have to try them this weekend for flounder. I catch them very easily up to 4 inches long at my house on Santa Rosa Sound in Mary Esther.
