Default Fish ID?? Video

I saw this one yesterday in the sound. He wouldn't take a fiddler crab I presented. I know the video isn't very long, maybe not enough to ID the fish, but here it is if anyone can:

looks like a lumpy black drum. i'm sure the kayakers could best determine by the number of fish they've seen from that angle.

Black Drum and crushed blue crab would have done the trick.

He was indeed rough looking. Are they any good to eat? I've been offshore plenty but inshore I'm pretty green.

Definitely a big black drum. The small ones are great to eat but once they get that big they're not nearly as tasty, they usually have A LOT of worms in the meat, plus when they get that old they've spent their whole life bio-accumulating lots of PCBs, Dioxins, mercury and other heavy metals that you don't want to eat.

Catch and release the big ones so they can make more babies. Slot size (14-24inches) are the ones you want to eat.

Good luck,
Alex
