Default Dock lights

We are towing our boat down first week in august and plan to try our luck at night around the dock lights. Best I can gather, im looking at a 7' medium action spinning setup with 12lbtest flourocarbon. Small hooks, and live shrimp freelined, or with a small splitshot if the currents too bad, drifted along the outer edges of the lights. Does that sound about right to you guys? Also, what size and type hook and how to hook the shrimp. I have a ton of the light wire #2 size gold panfish hooks that we use for crappie here. Anything else you could add about tactics, baits, etc. for the lights would help a ton. Thanks.

probably should have a lighter outfit too.....maybe a 6-7 ft light action rod with 8lb test....tied to a smaller khale hook...live shrimp don't cast all that well on 12lb.

Ditto above. I really like a khale in #4 and #6 for this type of fishing. I'd also have a spool of 20-30lb fluor just in case the bluefish are a pain.

Gulp shrimp on your 12lb floro with a 1/4 oz jig head will work well too. Good luck!

I like to tail hook shrimp when free lining. Under the horn hooks well too, just avoid the dark spot
