I usually do the carolina rig on a moving tide but they could also be fishing for sheepshead.

As long as the current is moving, Destin bridge will be good. I think that the wind effects how much current is flowing as much the tides.

Are you fishing from the bridge or from a boat?

I had a great trip fishing at night. Drop a weighted light around 10 to 15 ft. You will see some big fish swim by. We put a 22 inch grouper and smaller. Catch and release. We were planing on snorkeling but the current did not let up. This was quite a while back. We were the only boat there. I have not been fishing there in a while because I'm now in Perdio Key. It should be great becuase the flounder are heading out and the grouper are heading inshore, at least the smaller ones.

Here's what I do, and it works well for me. I anchor so that the boat is as close to the bridge as possible. I leave enough room that if the anchor starts to drag I'll have just enough time to deal with it.

For leader I use 5-6 feet of 20 or 30# flourocarbon, depending on the size of my bait. Hook size is matched to the bait as well. For weight I vary from the norm. Instead of using a sliding egg sinker above the swivel, I use a sliding swivel (above the swivel connecting main line to leader) and a pyramid sinker. I do this for a couple reasons. For one, its easy to change weights as the current changes. Another reason is that I like to cast really close to the bridge pilings instead of just letting it out behind the boat. The pyramid sinker will stay put better so you can keep your bait where you want it for longer.

For bait lately they have been partial to pinfish in the three to four inch range, but you can try smaller pinfish if you're going for slot reds.

Let us know how it works out for you. I've always wanted to give that area a try. I hear people do well off of the bridge also.
